Weapons (needs to be ported to the wiki!)
Vergil has 3 weapons, Yamato, Beowolf and Force Edge. He also has the blue Phantom Swords. You can swap between thme using the R2 and L2 buttons, so you don't need to go to a menu just because there's 3 and you don't need to cycle through just to get to the one you want. L2 will take you from Beowolf to Yamato to Force Edge to Beowolf and so on. R2 will take you from Beowolf to Force Edge to Yamato to Beowolf and so on. Each weapon appears to have just a basic combo, nothing happens if you delay your attack like with Dante. But each weapon has moves that can be bought from Statues of Time, those moves will have the cost in orbs by them.
  • Beowolf
The basic combo for Bewolf is 2 punches followed by 2 kicks, a combo he uses on you in Mission 13 in the original game. Starfall Level 2: 7'500 - Darkslayer Level 2 Rising Sun: 5'000 Lunar Phase Level 2: 15'000 - Darkslayer Level 3 Starfall - Similar to Dante's Killer Bee. Rising Sun - Similar to Dante's Rising Dragon, only with two upward kicks. Lunar Phase - Vergil does a spinning kick forward and lands on his foot, kind of similar to Cerebrus' Revolver.
  • Force Edge
The basic combo for Force Edge is a succession of quick slashes with Force Edge then Yamato with a final downward slash from Force Edge. Helm Breaker Level 2: 13'000 - Darkslayer Level 3 Stinger Level 1: 5'000 Stinger Level 2: 10'000 - Darkslayer Level 2 Round Trip: 10'000 Stinger - Same as the Stinger we all know and love. Helm Breaker - Same as Dante's. Round Trip - Similar to Round Trip from DMC1 and more or less the same as in Mission 20 in the original DMC3. High Time - Same as Dante's.
  • Yamato
The basic combo for Yamato is a couple of quick slashes with the sheath and then a large slash horizontal with Yamato itself. Rapid Slash Level 1: 5'000 Rapid Slash Level 2: 15'000 - Darkslayer Level 3 Judgement Cut Level 1: 10'000 Judgement Cut Level 2: 20'000 - Darkslayer Level 2 Rapid Slash - Effectively a Stinger attack but Vergil lunges forward with a wide horizontal slash. Judgement Cut - Vergil's orb move. Aerial Rave - Two quick horizontal slashes in the air, fairly wide range. Upper Slash - One slash upwards, knocking the enemey in the air, and then another slash downwards, knocking them across the room.
  • Phantom Swords
You start off with a level 1 Phantom sword, that can be upgraded. Pressing square will summon and launch a sword. Level 2: 7'500 Level 3: 15'000 Spiral Swords: 20'000 Spiral Swords - Circle of Phantom Swords surrounds Vergil. Costs 2 DT Runes to activate and is required to do the following moves. (Hold down Square to summon them) Sword Storm - Surrounds the enemy, then hits. (Hold down R1, then press Square + Forward) Blistering Swords - Appears above Vergil, then launches one by one at the enemy. (Hold down R1, then press Square + Back)

New Features (needs to be ported to the wiki!)
Here's a summary of the new features in this game:
  • Vergil is a playable character =D
  • He comes with his own style and carries Yamato, Beowolf and Force Edge
  • He has one style, Dark Slayer
  • Bloody Palace makes a return
  • Very Hard difficulty slots in between Hard and Dante Must Die
  • Jester is now an actual opponent to battle
  • Nelo Angelo is playable in some form
  • Gold Orb continue system allowing you to carry on from where you died, last seen in DMC2 and the Japanese version of DMC3
  • Budget price
  • The "Unlock All" code has ben changed. It's now "Hold R2 + R1 + L2 + L1, press Left on D-pad, Up on D-pad, then move Left Analog stick towards the right/down corner." Unfortunately, to many fans' disappointment, there are no new levels in the game, and you fight a Vergil clone at the Vergil fights instead of Dante.

Hints and Tips (needs to be ported to the wiki!)
Some hints and tricks relating to Vergil. The hints for Dante still apply for him.
  • The jump cancelling trick works just as well with Vergil as with Dante. With Yamato it's possible to do several slashes in the air and with Beowolf you can repeat Starfall as long as your skill level will allow.
  • When fighting Vergil on DMD mode, it's possible to completely cancel his Phantom Sword attack with your own. Summon yours and have them surround Vergil in the spinning formation and when they slice inwards your swords will clash with his, usually destroying them both.
  • When doing any of the moves involving circle, there's a brief couple of frames of invincibility which can be exploited.
  • Judgement Cut seems to knock enemies back far more regularly than other attacks, so it's best used when your enemy is in a corner so you can connect with all 3 hits. Some enemies like the Chess pieces and bosses can't be knocked back in such a fashion so you don't have worry about that.
  • Because of the amount of time you need to stand still to execute Judgement Cut, if you use Spiral Swords to surround yourself while executing the move it will stop most enemies unless they're in Devil Trigger (see next hint), and sometimes while they are in it. It will only stop them for a couple of seconds of constant contact but that should be enough to execute the move sucessfully.
  • Talking of the Phantom Swords, doing the Spiral Swords attack will basically generate a shield for many purposes. The revolving swords will often stop enemies if they're about to attack you. If you're constantly next to an enemy and the swords are connecting they will shatter after a few seconds, but the protection they provide can be very handy, especially on DMD mode where it's harder to stun regular enemies when they're in Devil Trigger.
  •
Dark Slayer (needs to be ported to the wiki!)
The name of Vergil's style is called Dark Slayer and uses the blue orbs from Gunslinger in the top left corner of the screen. It's the only style he has, but it incorporates all of his moves. As you level up the style, it unlocks the ability to buy new moves for the weapons as some moves can only be bought at certain levels, you also get a new ability at each level.
  • Level 1 - Air Trick
  • Level 2 - Trick Up
  • Level 3 - Trick Down Air Trick is as it was for Dante except you appear in front of the enemy instead of above it, Trick Up moves you closer to an enemy and makes you appear in mid air, Trick Down makes you move away from an enemy and it'll bring you back down to the ground as well if you're in the air.

Gameplay Changes (needs to be ported to the wiki!)
These aren't all changes as such, but here you'll find a list of things that are different or that you might want to make note of when playing the game.
  • The secret mission "Flight of the Demon" has changed considerably. Vergil has no ability to fly, so more of the orbs are located on the ground and only a few are in the air, requiring Air Trick to obtain. "Target Practice" is a lot harder now that you jhave no guns, upgrading the Phantom Swords fully is advised before trying this mission. "Final Ascension" is now a great deal harder. The trick listed just below this is needed to get to a lot of the places now you don't have Trickster's ability to run up walls.
  • The blue orb fragment in the Subterranean Garden is now a lot harder to get. The only real way to get it seems to be as follows. Equip Yamato and jump towards the wall below the section where the fragment is. Then jump off t he wall away from it, perform the first hit of Aerial Rave towards the wall and then Trick Up into the gap. Easier said than done.
  • The Combat Ajudicators appear to be in the same locations, but obviously you don't have the 5 weapons Dante had, so check this page for some information on that.
  • 3 Jester fights have been inserted into the game. The first is in the first room of Mission 5 after you beat the Blood Goyles and you have to beat Jester to unlock the door at the far end. The second one is in Mission 12 at the Divinity Statue before Geryon and the third one is at Mission 17 beyond the door at the top level in the God Cube Chamber.
  • Unlike in DMC3, Vergil starts off with all of his weapons (Yamato, Force Edge and Beowolf) and also had Devil Trigger from the start.
  • Because of the new difficulty level (Very Hard), there are more unlockables. Super Dante has been moved down to the reward for beating Very Hard mode instead of Dante Must Die mode. When you clear that mode, you get Super LDK Dante, which is infinite Devil Trigger and health regeneration.
  • Nelo Angelo is the Devil Trigger for LDK Vergil and Super LDK vergil. Yamato becomes his huge sword and Beowolf becomes Ifrit, there's no way to use Force Edge as a third weapon while in Nelo form.
  • A new Turbo feature can boost the game's speed by 20%.
  • After getting the final blow on the Vergil clone in mission 20, "Ridiculous" echoes into the background instead of "Dante".
  • The Durahan has been upgraded. When it appears it will now form around its vulnerable jewel. It will then charge at you with its shield spinning, should you jump it will lance its sword in your direction trying to strike you. It will then retreat and repeat the process, they are much more deadly than in the original.
